Joint Committee on Commerce and Labor
State House
Boston, MA 02133
Dear Chairman Rodrigues, Chairman Hart, and Honorable Members of the Committee:
I write in support of Senate 31, An Act Relative to Creating Jobs in the Commonwealth, of which I am a sponsor.
Senate Bill 31 will authorize a special commission to investigate economic issues pertaining to creating and maintaining high quality jobs in the Commonwealth. We all know that our state’s economy rests on skilled workers and attracting high-quality jobs, but currently we lack a comprehensive study to guide strategic economic development.
The creation of such a commission has the support of a broad spectrum of leaders. This commission, balanced by members from business, labor, and academia, with appointees from the House, Senate, and Governor, would make policy and program recommendations to the Legislature that will aid us in steering the economy. This short-term commission will result in long-term benefits to our economy and thus to the people of Massachusetts.
I ask the Committee to favorably report Senate 31. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Alice K. Wolf
State Representative
